President of the USA during the period of the rise of Nazi Germany and throughout most of the Second World War
He begun his Presidency in 1933 and retained the office till his death in April 12, 1945, less than a month before the war in Europe ended. He led the ΓÇ£New DealΓÇ¥ policy aimed to recover the American economy from the crisis that begun at the end of the 1920's. In foreign affairs Roosevelt made clear' long before the war, that he is against the aggressiveness of the Axis powers and their totalitarian ideologies. In 1941 Roosevelt and Churchill met at sea off Newfoundland and framed the Atlantic Charter, a statement of war aims before the USA entered the war. This statement led Hitler to support the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour and the declaration of war on the USA. In discussions between Roosevelt and Churchill it was agreed that US main efforts should be directed against Germany, and only later against Japan. Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin met at Teheran in December 1943 to conclude future military operations against Germany. Roosevelt took place in the Yalta international conference in February 1945. Few months later he died.
